Peter Maddison is a multi award-winning architect and Director of Maddison Architects, a practice he started in 1989.
Peter is committed to the profession's development with guest lecturing, seminars and has always participated in committees. He is currently on the Honours Committee of the RAIA.
In 2014 he was conferred the prestigious Degree of Doctor of Design (Honoris Causa) by RMIT and in 2016 the National Presidents Prize by the RAIA for Australian Achievement in Architecture.
Maddison Architects has completed over 300 projects since its inception, including hospitality, tourism, residential, educational and commercial. The practice has sought to create a new and relevant architecture. The Practice has received some significant commendations and awards in the Architecture design field.
Peter is Ambassador for the not-for-profit Melbourne Open House program, the Planet Ark endorsed Environmental Edge campaign, a supporter of Kids Under Cover charity and the Ambassador for Architects Without Frontiers.
Peter took on the role of Host of the Australian production of Grand Designs in 2009. The first series was an outstanding success becoming LifeStyle’s most successful local production ever. In 2011 it won two ASTRA awards, and was also nominated for a Logie in 2011, 2013 and 2015. He was also nominated for AACTA Awards (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Awards) in 2014, 2015 and 2017. Series 8, 9 and 10 of GDA is now in production.
In 2011 Grand Designs Live was spawned, with 18,000 people attending the inaugural event in Sydney. Grand Designs Live went to Melbourne and Sydney in 2012, attracting 52,000 visitors. Peter is also the Editor-at-Large for the Grand Designs Australia Magazine. His first book, “Grand Designs Australia: The Handbook” was released in 2013.
