Taxi Dining Room, on the second level of the hotel complex Transport, is intended to be read as an independent restaurant operation even though it continues the "transport" analogy. Taxi comprises a spectacular space that is both dynamic and intimate in its spatial composition. The spatial organisation was one where the open kitchen plays centre stage, establishing a visual connection with patrons in the bar and dining areas. Most of the interior has been designed from first principles, prototyped and then custom built. The project presented the opportunity for our office to pursue a unique architectural vocabulary that is inherently connected to its surrounding context. Perched within the pulsating central hub of Melbourne, Taxi enjoys spectacular siting with expansive views of the city and Yarra River. A sense of the energy and vibrancy of Taxi’s immediate surrounds is drawn into the design. Fluid sculptural elements and material selection reinforce this context and recognise the "outbound" presence of the fit-out space
